The long days of summer are behind us as the days shorten in length and the mornings and evenings bring the first chill in the air off of the lagoon. It may not appear that there is much progress on Herons' House but the opposite is true.
The cellar portion of the house is essentially finished, the walls grouted, and we are awaiting an inspection hopefully this morning. (we lost three days because the inspector could not make it to the house on Friday) After the inspection we will be able to backfill the wall.
Our forms are in for the foundation of Herons' House, the plumber has trenched for the water/gas/sewer lines, we expect the plumber to be finished by the 18th and then the plumbing inspection will happen and the trenches will be backfilled. We expect the foundation to be poured approx one week after that.
We used the back hoe, needed for the plumber, to cut the footings for the vineyard walls and the stairs down to the vineyard. The vineyard walls will be 60ft in length and start at the western edge of the cellar and run towards the creek. They will be as high as the top of the lot with copper railings above that.
We will be building the vineyard walls and the outdoor kitchen wall and pilasters this week. Ron will keep working on the top of the lot to get ready to pour concrete.
We will be framing by November 1st and Herons' House will for the first time, rise into the skyline.

just for fun, a picture from the beginning for comparison.
