Another milestone, the framing for Herons' House is complete. I'll caption the pictures below.
This is looking from the west on one of Carlsbad's many trails. The portion of the house that is closest is the 600 sq. ft. sleeping porch and the 300 sq. ft. music room. The egret, (original house) is fitting in nicely to the overall design.
This is a view from inside the music room looking out over the lagoon and ocean onto the sleeping porch. Notice there is no corner to the room, this is where the cornerless NANAwallsystem will be.

| An outside view of
the sleeping porch and the outdoor fire pit area. The two windows down
close to the earth are windows into one room of the wine cellar. The
top part is wall for the decking.
Strong horizontal lines, lots of outside space and stairs leading from the deck to the vineyard.
One of seven decks for Herons' House, this one is for the master bedroom. It has become Julie's favorite place. The lower deck on the Egret (right side of picture) is off of the living area.
Our vineyard walls, real rock ledgerstone on the bottom, smooth plaster on the columns and capped with copper. The copper caps were treated with acid to speed up the verdigris process. The color of the cap as well as the colors of the house were selected from the palette provided by mother nature. Notice how the color on the pilasters match the vegetation of the lagoon watershed behind the house. The natural materials of real stone and copper are a very good combination.
This is the walkway from the outdoor dining area down to the vineyard. In all there are 22 pilasters with copper caps. In between the pilasters along the vineyard wall will be copper railings. All of the copper work is done by myself and my good friend and noted artist Danny Salzhandler.
Many artists' are working on Herons' House. We have commissioned a noted stained glass artist Delores Bonacorsi of first impressions, to do two stained glass doors. This one is the design for the front door of Herons' House that will be set in a cherry wood door frame. the door will be 42" by 96" with the stain glass taking up most of that space. Working with Delores on the design, a F.L.W. geometric theme with a Blue Heron interwoven was a real treat. Picking out the glass and lead from thousands of options was an exercise beyond words. The doors will be ready in 10 weeks.
This is the wine cellar door design. The door will have a curved top. The design is of an Egret (all white) in a vineyard with rolling hills in the background. This piece will be considerably more colorful and whimsical than the front door to Heron's House. |
