Lets get ready to lumber!
Our first floor lumber was delivered on Friday November 4th. Plate and top plate was cut and set on the same day.
Today, Saturday November 5th, Kris and Bendt detailed the plate. Between Kris and Bendt, your looking at over 50 years of house building experience, my guess is that Herons' House is a piece of cake for these great Danes! Rumor has it that Bendt might actually put his tool belt on! If he can find it.
Detailing is one of the most important parts of the construction. Everything has to be just right with loads and beams from the second floor and roof transferring all the way down to the foundation. Detailing is calling out all the studs, doors, windows, beams, hold downs, trimmers and joist and calling them out on the plate and top plate which is laid out simultaneously.
Cutting all the headers and trimmers will happen on Monday and then the entire first floor walls will stand by Tuesday. Floor joist will be set on Thursday, and by Friday we should be walking on our second floor.
That's a day that we have been looking forward to!
The bottom picture is of our sunken fire pit, This is on the upper level off the outdoor dining room. The fire pit will be 5ft by 4ft, the fire pit area is 20ft by 20ft. There will be masonry benches sitting around the pit and the whole area will a few ft below grade. This area should easily be able to handle 15 -20 friends and family around the fire.
