A rough night sleeping on Monday evening the 19th, I think I only slept a few hours. We had the biggest thunder and lightning storm I can remember with lightning all over the North County. We also had a late summer rain and that is what kept me up all night. I was watching the sky all night praying that the footings and formwork/rebar did not get ruined by the rain.
Tuesday the 20th we were scheduled to pour concrete in the footings and if it rained to hard the footings would have collapsed and our 450 sq.ft. wine cellar would have turned into an Olympic size swimming pool. That would have set us back a few weeks and several thousand dollars.
It did rain during the evening/morning but thankfully the rain was sporadic and on the light side so just minimal repair was needed on the footings and the concrete pour happened on schedule.
We pumped 24 yards of concrete in the footings and wet set the first course of block. The block is 12'' wide along the tall wall and 8"wide on the stem walls.
This marks a transition point on Heron's House, we stop taking things out of the lot and we start putting material on the lot. Our first concrete!
