The framing of Herons' House is complete. As homeowners we no longer look at the plans and envision what our home will look like, but rather walk through our home and envision what living in it will be like.

We have had our first bottle of wine in the cellar, our first fire in the pit, our first walk on the second story, our first gasp at the beautiful views, and now, our first party entertaining 150 guest. Herons' house is feeling more like our home than a construction site.

Our thoughts are of how lucky we are to have the family we have. We can never repay in any currency  the debt to my brother Bendt and my uncle Kris. Without them, Herons' House, our home, would not exist. To have your brother and Uncle build your dream home is a feeling of joy and family pride.

Let's just say, to lighten it up a little bit, they have a lifetime I.O.U.  :)  Thank you Bendt and Kris! It is a debt that we can never repay but will always honor.

Another debt of gratitude is owed to Bart Smith and his architectural team at www.dznpartners.com

To work with a good friend on the design of the house that you hope to spend the rest of your life in is a very special circumstance.  It has been interesting because for the most part our relationship has been as good friends and now it is that plus client/architect and all the responsibility that goes with that.

To verbally, and with sketches convey the type of house that you would like (I'll write about that shortly) to the architect, and then have the input distilled into the initial design concepts is a fascinating process between the client/architect. To then refine that into working drawings and then from drawings to reality is almost unreal.

Here we are over a year into the project, and we are amazed, far beyond our original expectations at our home.  The credit goes to the above, as well as our landscape architect Rich Risner www.grounded101.com   and all the artist and craftsman that are building the house.

Julie and I are humbled, amazed, and delighted with what you are building, and with our home.

Incredible.

Peder
