Greetings after some holiday time for the Norby Clan.
Julie and I are refreshed and inspired just back from a five day trip to Napa and Sonoma. In spite of our prodigious consumption and purchasing, I am happy to report that there is still a little wine left in Napa.
Our vineyard is showing incredible growth for the first year. Last months post just 6 weeks ago gives you an idea of the growth. We are now letting the shoots grow up through the shoot positioning wires. Although we pinched off all the grape clusters this year the vegetative growth above the soil will help the root development below the soil which will make next years growth and berry development even better.
We will prune in January and the plan is to allow one or two berry clusters close to the trunk to come to ripeness next year. Essentially about 1/3 of a full crop.
The third year we go for a full crop of Brunello.
For a wine grower, patience is both a virtue, and a necessity!
